This Privacy Policy explains how Restated (“we,” “us”) handles information in connection with the Restated browser extension and website. We designed the product so that text you choose to rewrite is processed on your device for inference, not sent to us for rewriting.
A. On-device rewrite text
When you use Restated, selected text is handled inside the extension on your device to generate a rewrite. That content is not transmitted to Restated servers for the purpose of performing the rewrite. We do not use your rewrite content to train models.
B. Local settings and usage counters
The extension may store data in browser storage on your device, such as preferred tone, license/activation flags, and a local daily usage count for free limits. This data stays in your browser storage unless you clear it or sync browser data through your own browser account settings.
C. Purchases and licenses (if you buy Pro)
If you purchase a paid license or subscription, payment is processed by our payment partner (e.g. Lemon Squeezy). They may collect name, email, payment details, and transaction metadata under their own privacy policy. We may receive limited information needed to fulfill the purchase (for example, that a license was issued or an email associated with the order). We do not receive the text of your rewrites as part of checkout.
D. Website and support
If you visit our website, standard server or host logs (such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested) may be collected by our hosting provider (e.g. Netlify) according to their practices. If you email us for support, we receive the content of your message and your email address in order to respond.
E. Model download
On first use (or when models are updated), model weight files may be fetched from a third-party model host (for example, a public model repository or CDN) and stored in your browser cache. That download is a file transfer of model parameters, not an upload of your selected text for rewriting.
We do not sell personal information. We may share limited information with:
Browser vendors (e.g. Google Chrome) and extension stores have their own terms when you install software from them.
On-device storage lasts until you clear site/extension data, uninstall, or we change storage keys in an update. Support emails are kept as long as needed to resolve your request and for legitimate business or legal records. Purchase records may be retained as required for accounting and fraud prevention.
We use reasonable measures appropriate to a small software project. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. Because rewrite inference is local, reducing cloud exposure of your text is a core design goal—but your device, browser, and network remain under your control.
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
The Service may be used from different countries. Where local laws grant access, correction, or deletion rights regarding personal data we hold (for example, support emails or purchase-related data), contact us and we will respond as required by applicable law. Note that purely on-device data in your browser is controlled by you on your device.
We may update this Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use after updates constitutes acceptance where permitted.
